After battling with Capital Kickers on Sunday, El Toro had only a few days rest before facing he top U-30 team, FC Rovers. Yet, the short lay-off did not seem to affect the Bulls out of the gate. The Rovers backline was repeatedly caught off guard in the first half and El Toro had several quality chances. Not surprising though, the scoring opportunities did not result in any goals. And after playing solid defense for the first 30 minutes, El Toro found themselves in a 1-0 deficit going into halftime by way of a 40 yard prayer that sailed over the keepers head and into the Bull's net.
The second half saw the Bulls tire a bit and Rovers applied pressure to the El Toro defense. But a quick counter attack 15 minutes into the second half knotted the score at 1-1. The tie was short lived as Rovers was awarded a penalty minutes later after a late challenge. Still, the Bulls battled back and again drew even with Rovers after Fab "CoCo" Villarreal scored on a left footed shot from the corner of the box. The game was played even for the next several minutes until Rovers scored again to make it 3-2. With El Toro pushing for a goal, Rover tacked on two cheap goals before the game was over.
The game was marred by disastrous refereeing. At least sever yellow cards were given and one player from each team was sent off. The game was also delayed for over 10 minutes because the refs had to discuss what the rules were! Shouldn't they know the rules before they put a whistle around their neck?
