FSSC Prevails Against Arch Rival

Coming off a disappointing tie, El Toro battled to a 4-3 win against arch rival Cash Now. With Geoff Gale back in net and a full side of reserves, the Bulls were ready to take on a hungry Cash Now squad. The game began rather uneventful with the Bulls carrying much of the play. In the 10th minute, Paul Vance avoided two defenders and slotted the ball past the Cash Now keeper for a 1-0 lead. Not long after, Mike Vance played a dangerous ball into the penalty area which resulted in an own goal to make the game 2-0. El Toro was on their way to dominating the game until a weak foul on Dave Rawls led to an easy free kick goal. With the lead down to one, El Toro continued to play well as the first half ended.

In the second half Cash Now began driving long balls at the Bulls defense. This strategy was fairly effective but the Bulls defense held strong. El Toro took another two goal lead in the 37th minute when Twin 2 (Mike Farrar) blasted a beautiful left footed volley past the keeper. Leading 3-1, El Toro seemed to relax a bit and allowed Cash Now to crawl back into the game with two goals five minutes apart. With the game knotted 3-3, the intensity of play picked up. El Toro thought they had scored the game winner when Mike (new guy, last name unknown) beat the keeper on a clear break away. However, the referee inexplicitly called the goal back as a result of an apparent hand ball on the goalie. What should have been a goal or a red card to the Cash Now keeper resulted in a free kick and a yellow card. But El Toro kept their composure and continued to move the ball with ease. The tie was broken with 8 minutes left in regulation after a scrum in front of the Cash Now net resulted in a hand ball and penalty kick. Paul Vance placed the spot kick in the upper right hand corner to make the score 4-3. Cash Now moved players forward and mounted pressure late, but Gale, Chris Hallstrand, Pat Killian, Rawls, Twin 1 and Andy Toth sealed the victory by playing flawless defense the last five minutes. Final Score: 4-3.
