Playoffs: Cash Now 1 - El Toro 0 (OT)

What started as a very promising season ended in agony as El Toro fell to rival Cash Now in overtime of the Genesee Fieldhouse Men's 30 and over semifinals.

The Bulls got off to their typical sluggish start due to what appeared to be some lingering issues from the team fish fry the previous night (note to schedulers - please do not schedule playoff games the day after the fish fry). Yet, in usually El Toro fashion, the team re-grouped rather quickly and began to get the better of possession in the first half. Ricky McQueary was able to have a few dangerous chances but was a bit starved of service as the first half wore on. Defensively the Bulls were in good shape with the Farrar Twins, Paul "Taz" Simpson, Andy Toth and Dave Rawls holding Cash Now to just a few first half chances.

As the second half began, El Toro starting adding pressure to the Cash Now defense. But as has been the problem all season, the Bulls could not finish their chances. Meanwhile, Cash Now was able to generate some chances for themselves as things began to open up as the second half continued. However, keeper Geoff Gale and the Bulls backline would hold firm and keep Cash Now from taking the lead.

As the second began to wind down, El Toro was rewarded with numerous corner kicks and set pieces, but just as it had during the run of play, El Toro mostly squander these dangerous chances. The second half would end knotted at zero and the teams would prepare for a 10 minute overtime session.

Cash Now came out blazing as the overtime began and just missed a shot from 30 yards out. El Toro appeared to be tiring but was given a golden opportunity after a foul was called just outside the 18 yard box. Yet Paul Vance's attempt to end the game wound up in the chest of a Cash Now player positioned in the wall. Minutes later Cash Now sent a long ball down th right side of the field. A poor clearance was gathered by a Cash Now midfielder who lofted the ball back into the box. As players from both teams converged the ball ricocheted to a Cash Now forward who calmly placed it around the keeper. El Toro would have a few more chances to tie the score but was unable to capitalize. Final score: Cash Now 1, El Toro 0 (OT).
