El Toro continued its dominance in the Genesee Fieldhouse summer league with a 8-0 thrashing of ICBIRDT on Sunday evening in Flushing. As a side note, it was just confirmed that ICBIRDT means "I Can't Believe I'm Really Doing This." Very appropriate.
El Toro started the game very hot amid the humid conditions. Paul Vance got the Bulls on the scoreboard five minutes into the game with a strike from 20 out. Credit Ronnie Thomas with the assist. In the 12th minute, Vance drew a free kick and played the ball to Fabian "CoCo-Sauce" Villarreal who had snuck in behind the ICBIRDT wall. CoCo found the back of the net to make the score 2-0. CoCo-Sauce Villarreal, playing the game of his life, would score again just minutes later, beating the keeper near post after a nifty pass from Rob "Crazy Legs" Roney.
The ICBIRDT defense would then tighten up and hold the Bulls scoreless until the 30th minute when CoCo returned the favor and slotted a through ball to Roney who chipped it over the keepers head for a 4-0 lead. El Toro would extend its lead to five after a blast from Mike Vance was re-direct by veteran Dave Sutton (the Robert Parish of soccer). El Toro carried a comfortable 5-0 lead into halftime.
As the saying goes, old habits die hard...and that was all to evident for El Toro in the second half. With numerous players thirsty for a goal, the Bulls got sloppy and lacked team work. Numerous shots were sailed over the net (i.e. Brad "Twin 1" Farrar) with the offensive attack often breaking down in the final third. Still, El Toro was too good to defeat themselves. Hybrid Stopper/Forward Andy Zinn would score the Bulls first goal of the second half at the 60th minute mark with a strike from distance. Rob Roney would get his second goal of the night after a well timed run put him on the receiving end of a pass from Paul Vance. A nice finish by Crazy Legs put El Toro ahead 7-0. Tom "Cry Baby" Beaubien would round out the scoring in the 75th minute off an assist from Ronnie Thomas. Once again, the defense for the Bulls were the unsung heros of the game. Final Score: El Toro 8, ICBIRDT 0.

There is nothing more to add, Paul nailed it! By the way I am still aggrivated with the whole 2nd half. 1) Phil was picking on me with his calls & it took me out of the game 2'ce & 2) how many guys on our team have never scored before? More than half play like they haven't. Our team breaks down & doesn't play proper soccer anymore once we've achieved a lead of 3 goals or more. Didn't they notice how we scored more goals in the first half when we played less selfish? Maybe i should keep the stats off the website & people wouldn't be so concerned. Yes we won, but i am not happy with it.
There were positives, don't get me wrong. Fab played some pretty sweet playgroud soccer, Paul Vance got back on the score sheet, Michael Vance DIDN'T score, & the back three had another shutout w/ Keeper Gayle. We have a +30 GD right now & after our game on Wed. we should be @ +38 @least. Maybe i won't be such bitch after the next game!
