Coming off the Spring 11 v. 11 league Championship with a 1-0 victory over Cash Now, El Toro (Flint Sports Soccer Club) started its first game on natural grass a bit flat. After becoming acclimated to the out door conditions (and rubber ball) El Toro finished the first half against Mid Michigan Fossils with a flurry of goals.
Ricky "Toe-ball" McQueary started the scoring 20 minutes into the game off a nice cross from midfielder Pat Killian. El Toro then went scoreless until Rob "Crazy Legs" Roney slotted a ball past the Mid-Michigan keeper at the 35 minute mark. Minutes later veteran forward Dave Sutton scored a sublime goal after one timing a pass from Paul Vance. McQueary scored again just before the half to make the score 4-1.
The second half saw El Toro carry the play and dominate possession. Unfortunately, El Toro squandered numerous chances in front of the net. Tom "Crybaby" Beaubien had the easiest opportunity but sailed one over and wide of the net. Crazy Legs Roney made up for Beaubien's missed opportunity by scoring another goal at the 22 minute mark.
Mid-Michigan began to pressure the El Toro defense and made it a 5-2 game just 7 minutes later, causing Coach Rick Bridgett to voice his displeasure with the lack luster defense. Sweeper Paul "Tasmanian Devil" Simpson and goalie Andy Toth made numerous big plays and organized the defense to preserve the win. Fabian "Coco-Sauce" Villarreal closed out the scoring at the 30 minute mark with a beautiful finish off a cross by Vance. Final score El Toro 6 - Mid-Michigan 2.

There has been rumors about a possible buyout of the "El Toro" sponsor from a rival business named "The Raincheck". This should provide the money to retain quality players in quality uniforms.
The blog is pretty acurate & funny! We shouldn't leave anyone out if we are going to talk about the game though.
Mr. Upper 90 has lost his lofty status & is now back to Mr. Head Down (which could entail...Mr. Holds the Ball Toooo Long, Mr.Can't put a Shot on Net, & Mr. Lack of Overall Soccer Intelligence). The Fat Hairy Lumberjack guy in the middle couldn't hit the net from 5ft out if noone was around, he kept smother-hooking them! Also, he couldn't partake on his so talked about "heading ability" either! Brad Farrar must have been getting tired late in the game cuz he hostle-shanked a couple w/out any pressure. I am surprised that the "Crybaby" hasn't commented to correct u for the 4 assists that he was not credited w/. Now I think about it.........AZ never came out, it was do to the fact he so desperately craved scoring his first goal in 24 games.
Positively, Mike Farrar played a solid left back in his first ever outdoor game w/ the club, as well as Paul Vance playing set-up man for all the old fat guys (tripped twice on ball though...we'll say it was the RUBBER EFFECT!) Andy Toth & P SIMP did tighten up in back for us, suring up a bad two goals allowed. Kudos to Ron Thomas for trying to play 1 month too early, but save it for a month later when we need you.
I think the club was established in my birth year of 1972, not sure?????? You forgot to mention that Coach Bridgett is up for Comback Mailman of the Year due to his knee replacement surgery last year, we're all pulling for you coach!! And on a side note..we will be going to T-shirts sponsored to us by The Raincheck Louonge, solely for the St. Joe Summerfest Soccer Tournament! Thanks Ted!!!!
